Remodel Your Kitchen Without Breaking the Bank
September 30th, 2008 Posted in Real EstateHave you thought of updating your kitchen recently? It can be a daunting and extremely expensive proposition, but there are ways to cut costs. And remember, buyers are usually passionate about the kitchen in any home they are considering buying.
Take heart… You don’t have to break the bank… There are ways to keep the costs down and still achieve a beautiful and functional gourmet kitchen, either for your own enjoyment or to prepare your home for marketing.
- To make your kitchen appear larger, you might consider removing a wall so that your kitchen merges beautifully into a family room or dining room.
- Buy ready-to-assemble cabinets instead of custom cabinets. This could save you a lot of $$$, especially if you install them yourself… Or just reface your cabinet doors…
- Instead of a solid granite counter top, consider granite tiles. These are fairly easy to install yourself, the tiles are much less expensive than slab granite, and the look is still fabulous and luxurious.
- Don’t change the plumbing. Work with what you have, especially if the remodel is specifically for the purpose of marketing your home for sale.
- If you are good at laying tile, consider removing linoleum and installed a tile floor or wood flooring. If you need instruction, consider a class at your local Home Depot.
If you are thinking of selling your home, don’t over-improve for the neighborhood. You might not get your money invested back. Think more toward changing wall colors to neutral, carpets to neutral and removing clutter. This will go a long way to making your home appealing to buyers…
Another tip if you are thinking of selling your home is to preview other homes for sale in your neighborhood. This will help you and your real estate professional to price your home to sell, and you will be educated about your competition.
Good luck:)
