Rod Stewart Comes to the Midstate Fair – “I Love Ya, Honey!”

Rod StewartWell, folks, I was there to see singer/songwriter Rod Stewart at the Midstate Fair in Paso Robles last night. Brian Adams was the opening act. Brian Adams and his band were okay; nothing technically wrong. They just aren’t one of my favorite bands, and they didn’t win me over last night either.

On the other hand, Rod Stewart and his band were fabulous! Rod played a lot of his old hits, including Maggie May, Every Picture Tells A Story, Hot Legs, Do Ya Think I’m Sexy, Downtown Train and Passion. I wish he would have sung Georgie, but he did sing for a good hour, and if he sang all of his hits, he would have lost his voice for sure.

As it was, he was struggling a tad with the last 2 songs. Not bad, but noticeable. I understand he had throat surgery in the late ’90s to remove a cancerous nodule on his thyroid gland, so it is not surprising that his vocal cords would have suffered a little. I’m just glad he is well and still around. And did I get my money’s worth last night? Yes, without a doubt!

His backup singers were great, too. Don’t know if he tours with the same ladies all of the time. Another surprise were two beautiful (of course they would be beautiful!) young ladies who played the sax, mandolin and guitars. I was very impressed with their talent and beauty. Last but not least, his whole band just rocks! No mistakes that I could tell, and the whole crowd was on their feet and dancing throughout the duration of the concert.

Roderick David Stewart was born January 10, 1945 in Highgate, London, UK.
