The Ranch, Restaurant & Honky Tonk in San Miguel

Opening in October of 2008, The Ranch, Restaurant & Honky Tonk in San Miguel, which offers a microbrewery, tiki bar and a steakhouse menu, has become a fun place to eat, meet friends, dance and listen to some great live music on Saturday nights. San Miguel is located 9 miles north of Paso Robles off of Highway 101, so definitely just a hop, skip and a jump away.

After having pursued his dream in Nashville singing country music and producing a solo album, Marty Elisarraras and his wife decided to return to the Paso Robles area where they spent a year and a half refurbishing The Ranch. Marty hopes his Nashville connections will help him attract more national acts such as Emerson Drive, who will perform there on February 26th. Check their website for ticket information.

Marty continues to perform country music at The Ranch with his band, The Regulators.

Paso Robles Welcomes the Amgen Tour on February 19, 2009

On February 19th, Stage 5 of the Amgen Tour featuring seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong and two-time defending champion Levi Leipheimer will begin in Visalia at 10:00 am and will end with a sprint down Spring Street in Paso Robles with the finish line being at the City Park (11th & Spring) near the Paso Robles Inn between 3:00 & 4:20 pm.

The route is roughly as follows: The race starts in Visalia and heads west on Highway 46 east before merging onto Highway 41 west and traveling through Shandon and Creston. Riders will then turn right onto Creston Road, left on Charolais Road, right on South River Road, left on Niblick crossing the bridge and then right onto Spring Street for a downhill fast and exciting finish.

There will be ample room for up-close viewing practically anywhere along the route, but there will also be events at other locations such as Still Waters Vineyard & Winery on Creston Road, Kennedy Adventure Club (members & guests only) on Niblick, Keller Williams Realty North County on Spring, and A Lifestyle Festival will be set up downtown.

While you are in Paso enjoying the race and festivities, be sure to visit Keller Williams Realty North County as we will have vendors in our parking lot, possibly wine tasting, water, and we will be barbecuing Santa Maria Style Tri-Tip Sandwiches that will be offered for sale as a fundraiser for KW Cares and other charities. We are located just one block north of the City Park on the corner of Spring & 13th Street.

There are also many merchants, wine tasting rooms and restaurants located around the City Park should you wish to enjoy some shopping or a sit-down lunch or dinner indoors.

Come visit Paso Robles City Park on September 20th when the downtown area will be transformed by not only the harvest but by Italian chalk art right on the street starting at 8:00 am. Stroll through downtown Paso Robles as artists create sidewalk chalk masterpieces, and from 11:00 to 4:00 pm many of the local restaurants will be serving bites of their favorite recipes from their menus. There will also be live music provided. The Downtown City Park is located at 12th and Spring Street.

Two Little Birds Bakery Opens in Paso Robles

The grand opening of Two Little Birds Bakery in Paso Robles took place on Friday. The bakery is conveniently located at 1210 Park Street near the city park. Lauren Galena is the proud owner and plans to offer homemade goodies from baked goods to cheesecakes, cupcakes, cookies, breads to muffins, croissants and cinnamon rolls. In addition, the bakery will offer Joebella Coffee, expresso and blended expresso drinks. A big welcome Two Little Birds! I bet this bakery is going to be a real hit with the locals and tourists. Can’t wait to try the cinnamon rolls…

Sylvester’s Restaurant to Open in Atascadero

The former Esteem Surf Shop at El Camino and West Mall Avenue in Atascadero is currently being renovated by owner Brian Englund to house the second location of Sylvester’s Restaurant. The original Sylvester’s Restaurant opened two decades ago in Los Osos and is known as a classic hamburger eatery. The new restaurant will have a deck for patio seating, and it should get a lot of customers based on its convenient downtown location which is near local schools. The eatery will feature classic charbroiled favorites like the Hana Burger and the California Burger with avacado and pepper jack cheese. Wine & Beer will also be available.

Get Acquainted With Paso Robles

California Central Coast living has become very desirable, and yet real estate remains affordable by California coastal pricing standards. From rolling vineyards and wineries to horse ranches, from small-town ambience to nearby uncrowded beaches and pristine lakes, beauty abounds in the scenery along all of its highways and byways. People have chosen to relocate or retire in this area, because it is restful, secluded and rich with culture and history.

Paso Robles is a medium-sized town with about 30,000 residents, but the area from Paso to San Luis Obispo probably has about 100,000 residents if you include the country properties outside of city limits.

Paso’s City Park, which is a full city block, is surrounded by wine tasting rooms, restaurants, an ice creamery, candy shop, quaint dress shops and the cinemas. Every Friday night in the summer, there is a free live music concert in the park, and you’ll usually see about 600 – 1,000 people in their lawn chairs enjoying a simple dinner meal and a bottle of wine as the heat of the day wanes and becomes a comfortable 70 to 80 degrees. J. Lohr always has wine for sale by the glass, and there is usually at least one food vendor available should you not have time to fill your picnic basket, or you may wish to visit one of our fabulous restaurants.

Of course, we have our California Midstate Fair here at the Paso Robles Event Center in late July/early August, which is winding down right now.

Also, it is only about a 30-minute drive to the coast from Paso Robles. If it is hot in Paso, then it is easy to get to the beach where you will enjoy temperatures of 70 to 80 degrees on a hot day. Each beach town has much to offer such as Morro Bay, Cayucos, Cambria and San Simeon where the Hearst Castle is located. All have wonderful restaurants, art galleries and pristine, uncrowded beaches to visit.

Cuesta Jr College North County in Paso offers a pretty wide array of classes for the young and the not-so-young (I consider myself one of these) during the weekdays and evenings.

So, you see, you will never get bored, and with very nice single-family homes available in the $400,000 range, you can’t go wrong. And remember, you are only 4 hours from San Francisco or Los Angeles if you get the itch to visit the big city, and 2 hours from Monterey and Santa Barbara. Life just doesn’t get much better than this…

Level Four 1920′s Speak-Easy in Paso Robles

The Level 4 Restaurant and Speak-Easy opened in Paso Robles earlier this year. It is located in the basement of the historical Clock Tower Building on Park Street that was destroyed in the 2003 earthquake. Not to worry… The Clock Tower Building was completely rebuilt after the quake, and the basement is dark and mysterious in a good way.

After an elevator ride down to the restaurant and bar, you will see this establishment is modeled after the prohibition circa of the 1920′s, and it brings you an urban, stylish atmosphere that reminds you of the lavish bars and restaurants to be found in the big city. Furniture is lavish and colored in chocolate browns and deep reds, and the brown marbled onyx bar top exudes its own extravagance.

The restaurant menu is California cuisine with a French flair and provides visually breathtaking, layered textures and aromas to die for. Entrees range from $25 to $38…

There is a beautiful piano bar in the lounge, and live music is provided several nights of the week. The lounge menu consists of one-of-a-kind martinis with fresh fruits, hors d’oeuvres, a full bar and an extensive wine list.

Casual is the order of business throughout Paso Robles, but I understand there is a dress code now at Level 4, so please call ahead – (805) 237-2111 – for restaurant reservations and any dress restrictions.

When you come to visit, do yourself a favor and at least stop by for a drink. You will be pleasantly surprised by the lavish ambiance of Level 4 in quaint Downtown Paso only a half-block walk to the City Park.
