<p>There will be an Artists&#8217; Reception at <a href="http://www.studiosonthepark.org/" target="_blank"><strong>Studios on the Park</strong></a> in <strong>Paso Robles</strong> celebrating the art of <strong>Nancy Becker</strong> and <strong>Frank Armitage</strong> on February 20, 2010 from 5:00 &#8211; 7:00 pm.</p>
<p><strong>Nancy Becker</strong> earned her BA in Art Education from the University of Colorado and also holds a BFA in Graphic Design from California College of Arts &amp; Crafts.  Art, horses and the western environment are her passions.  She is also an accomplished silversmith, woodworker and lapidary artist.</p>
<p>A native Australian, <a href="http://www.armitageimages.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Frank Armitage</strong></a> became involved in Mexican Mural Painting in the 1940&#8242;s.  In 1952, he moved to Los Angeles to work for <strong>Disney Studios</strong> on animation backgrounds and layouts for feature films such as Sleeping Beauty, Man In Space, Mary Poppins, Peter Pan and The Jungle Book.</p>
<p>After retiring from <strong>Disney</strong> in 1989, Frank retired to <strong>Paso Robles</strong> where he continues to produce art at Studios on the Park.  He is also available for commissioned work.</p>

<h3>Rising Tide of Female Opportunity</h3>
<p>&#8220;Whether career definition for you is corporate, philanthropic, entrepreneurial, educational or working at home, the favorable global economic shift to woman holds promise and potential for you. Several recent reports and studies note the following:</p>
<p>Information from recent <a href="http://www.newsweek.com/id/215304">Newsweek Magazine, <em>Hear Her Roar</em></a> article:</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>In the last few months, economists, consultants, and other business types have begun to track the rise of a new emerging market, one that may end up being the largest and most powerful of all: women. According to a new study by the Boston Consulting Group, women are now poised to drive the post-recession world economy, thanks to an estimated $5 trillion in new female-earned income that will be coming on line over the next five years. Worldwide, total income for men ($23.4 trillion) is still more than double that for women ($10.5 trillion), but the gap is poised to shrink significantly because the vast majority of new income growth over the next few years will go to women, due to a narrowing wage gap and rising female employment. That means women will be the ones driving the shopping—and, economists hope, the recovery. That growth represents the biggest emerging market in the history of the planet—more than twice the size of the two hottest developing markets, India and China, combined.</em></p>
<p><em> </em>Another November 2009 report from <a href="http://www.sphere.com/2009/11/06/women-are-overtaking-men-in-the-u-s/?icid=main%7Chtmlws-sb-n%7Cdl1%7Clink3%7Chttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.sphere.com%2F2009%2F11%2F06%2Fwomen-are-overtaking-men-in-the-u-s%2F">Sphere:</a></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this fall, for the first time in U.S. history, women have surpassed men and now make up more than 50 percent of the nation&#8217;s workforce. In 1967, by comparison, they accounted for just one-third of all workers. Signs of the changing landscape in gender relations are just about everywhere you look:</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em> • Double the number of single women are now purchasing homes in America than there are single men.<img style="margin: 10px; float: right;" src="http://www.womenhomeowners.com/images/stories/blog_images/business_women3.jpg" alt="business_women3" width="250" height="100" /></em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>• Four out of every 10 women are are now their family&#8217;s primary breadwinner, a sharp increase from past decades.</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>• The New Hampshire State Legislature is now made up of a majority of women, a first for a legislative body in the U.S., and the number of women in government continues to edge up nationwide.</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>• Women now account for 30 percent of math Ph.D.s, up from just 5 percent in the 1960s.</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>• On average, women read nine books every year. Men only read four, and women account for 80 percent of the U.S. fiction market.</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>• The World Bank recently estimated that the global earning power of women will reach an estimated $18 trillion by the year 2014, up $5 trillion today.</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em> &#8220;Women really have become the dominant gender,&#8221; said <a href="http://www.guygarcia.com/">Guy Garcia</a>, author of &#8220;<a href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/0061353140/?tag=yahhyd-20&amp;hvadid=49129556511&amp;ref=pd_sl_7z4lwvb2hx_b">The Decline of Men</a>.&#8221; &#8220;What concerns me is that guys are rapidly falling behind. Women are becoming better educated than men, earning more than men, and, generally speaking, not needing men at all. Meanwhile, as a group, men are losing their way.&#8221;</em></p>

<p class="BodyCopy"><span class="BodyBold">Single women account for the fastest  growing segment</span> of the home-buying population in the U.S. This trend has  been on the rise for many years. From 1994 to 2002, the number of unmarried  women owning homes climbed from 13.9 million to 17.5 million. By 2004, 18% of  all homebuyers were single women. According to the latest NAR profile of  homebuyers and sellers, that number has risen to 22%.</p>
<p class="BodyCopy"><span class="BodyBold">Factors leading to this increase</span> include the following demographic trends: better education, more women working  and seeking financial independence, and young women delaying marriage. Also,  women have significantly increased their purchasing power. They own and operate  38% of all businesses in America and make up nearly 40% of all business school  graduates. More immediately, historically low interest rates, affordable home  prices, ample housing supply and the first-time homebuyer tax credit are fueling  the increase of single women homebuyers.</p>
<p class="BodyCopy"><span class="BodyBold">Statistically, women do more  research</span> and spend a longer period of time searching for a home. They’re  also more inclined to make home repairs. Studies show that nearly half of all  purchases made in Home Depot and Lowes are made by women. And 94% of women  homeowners claimed to have completed a home improvement project by themselves in  the last five years.</p>
<p class="BodyCopy"><span class="BodyBold">Some home characteristics</span> that  experts say appeal to women: a safe community (single women account for a large  number of condominium purchases where they find a sense of security), a home  office (home-based businesses are very popular among women), maintenance  friendly yards, lots of storage, and natural light, particularly in the master  suite and bathroom. Statistically, women are also more likely to work with  female mortgage brokers, attorneys and real estate professionals.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The first <strong>Pioneer Day Parade</strong> in <strong>Paso Robles</strong> happened in 1931 at a time when <strong>bank failures</strong> were at an all-time high.  Sound familiar?  This event is held each year so Paso Roblans can celebrate their history and the pioneers who built <a rel="attachment wp-att-517" href="http://www.pasoroblesrealestateblog.com/good-times-events/pioneer-day-comes-to-paso-robles/attachment/amercian-wild-west/"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-517" title="American Wild West" src="http://www.pasoroblesrealestateblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/stagecoach-200x300.jpg" alt="American Wild West" width="200" height="300" /></a>our quaint city.</p>
<p>At 7:00 am in the park, the volunteers start cooking huge pots of beans.   The parade starts at 10:00 am, and that is followed by the <strong>bean feed</strong> at noon.  This event has always been free; even the bean feed.  Most downtown businesses close until after the parade so employees can celebrate with their families and friends.</p>
<p>This year&#8217;s parade featured community floats, marching bands, wagons, horse &amp; mule teams, antique tractors and equestrian groups.</p>
